    What is GitHub?

    Put in simplest of terms, GitHub is like a social network for developers to create projects and share them their followers. This is, however, a layman description of GitHub. It is quite more complex… and much cooler.

    GitHub is both a Version Control System and repository. As a version control system, it is a platform for developers to create projects, e.g. apps, and keep making improvements. As a repository, it is a storage platform for in which the users can save their project. Each project has its own repository (repo) and can only be accessed using a specific project-based URL.
    But what really makes GitHub standout and be so popular among developers compared to other version control systems?

    Forking (Branching)

    Forking is a unique feature of GitHub that allows one user to copy a project from a repository that he or she doesn’t have editing rights. The user can then transfer the project to their own account for modification like they would do with their own project. He or she can release the modified version as a new repository. This new copied repository I knew as a fork or branch. If the original repository is modified, the user can easily make the same modifications on the new project if they deem it fit to do so.

    Pull Requests

    After editing the original repository, a user might be impressed with the branch they have created and desire to have the creator of the original repo to view it. In such instances, GitHub allows the user to send a pull request to the original creator. A pull request creates a communication link between the two users concerning the two project: the original and the branch.

    Merge

    Forking allows several users to modify one repo in different ways independently. If after pull request the original creator is impressed with the changes, he may copy them to his repository and make them part of the initial project.

    There are a lot of good developers that are creating an independent project. However, no matter how brilliant, nobody has the monopoly of ideas. This is what makes GitHub such a revolutionary platform. It allows the users to not only share their projects but also to discuss it with other users about possible modifications.     A Little About Bar-C Ranch: A Special Place for Animal Lovers

    Located at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Bar-C Ranch is a family owned petting zoo offering educational shows and visits. The zoo was founded by Wil and Jennifer Caton in 2000 when the family had just moved to Clarke County. Today, the zoo has entertained and educated thousands of families and groups within the county and beyond.

As someone that isn’t familiar with customer reviews, one might dismiss the ratings but businesses know better.

    Traditionally, only business owners had access to reviews left by a customer. Yelp reviews are visible to the public and therefore have a significant impact on businesses. A 2011 study revealed that a one-star change in rating had an almost 10% impact on a business’s sales. It has also been found that a change from 3.5-star rating to four-star rating can boost a business’s sales by about 19%.

    In light of this information, business owners are taking Yelp reviews very seriously. In many instances, businesses owners have taken time to make it up to customers that have given them a negative review. Yelp is more than just a business review platform; It is a referral system and it is also pushing businesses to improve their service delivery.

  • RYSE Community Center Gets Mac Mini Mounts From Tryten

    RYSE in Richmond, California is an organization that grew out of the tragic deaths of four community young people. In discussions that took place afterward, the city of Richmond put "a lack of things to do" at the top of the list of problems that contributed to the rise in violence.

    The RYSE center opened in 2008 after a concerted effort by the community to raise money and resources.

    RYSE offers kids a safe place to hang out and engage in activities. However, they also teach job skills, help prepare resumes and provide other community services that are making a difference. Providing youth with the tools necessary to search for jobs and develop job skills requires open access to computers. Apple's Mac Minis were a good fit for equipment, but RYSE needed a secure way to mount them to workstations without limiting usability. Tryten Mac Mini Mounts were the perfect solution, and these were donated by Tryten to RYSE.

  • Hertz at LAX Pilots New Technology

    has developed a new app that will allow customers to do all their paperwork for a car rental on an iPad.  When piloting this app at Los Angeles International Airport, Hertz needed an iPad stand that could keep the iPads secure and help add to the customer experience to make the pilot project a success.  We delivered our unique iPad Kiosk design to Hertz to exceed their expectations and so far the pilot project is going very well.

  • Subway goes on the road for fitness

    When Subway Restaurants launched their "Commit to Fit" campaign for 2013, they put a truck on the road with more interactive ways to experience and learn about fitness. As you can tell from the photo, every inch of this truck is designed to help sell the message and the interactive iPad displays are no exception. With a custom designed graphic finish on the Tryten iPad kiosk, the displays blend in so seamlessly that we had to highlight them in the picture so that you can see where they are.

  • Newly Expanded Computer Security Offerings from Tryten

    The prevailing economic downturn and associated fiscal belt-tightening have left many corporations vulnerable to additional losses in the event of a theft in the workplace. In this all too common violation, the unexpected workplace disruption and employee down time compound the initial replacement expenses for stolen office hardware. Corporations with aggressive data protection systems discover the weak link in their security program. While each office environment requires unique security analysis, protecting your workplace from a costly theft can be approached in a practical and relatively inexpensive manner. Implementing a revised application of the following theft mitigation suggestions will provide your corporation with a solid return on investment.

    1. Firstly, establish a program for securing the perimeter of the office both during work hours and after closing. This plan must take into consideration the building type, location and tenant mix. Document the key or access card control plan and limit the responsibilities of securing the office to as few personnel as possible.

    2. Tighten building accessibility during work hours by establishing a front desk check in system and visitor management program. Limit access to more vulnerable floors or rooms.

    3. Keep unoccupied offices or storage areas locked at all times.

    4. Organize an office watch program as security breaches potentially affect everyone in the office.

    5. Consider having employees wear their company photo identification cards or photo access cards in an effort to reveal visitors.
